POSITION: Full-Time Substitute Bus Driver

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

 

Licensing: Must possess and maintain all licenses and certifications required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the Missouri Department of Revenue. 

 

Experience: Previous school bus driving or commercial driving experience preferred but not required.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Full-Time Substitute Bus Driver is a permanent member of the Southern Boone County R-I School District Transportation Department responsible for providing safe, reliable transportation for students. This position serves as the district's primary route relief driver and is assigned to cover regular bus routes, special education routes, activity trips, and other transportation assignments as needed.

 

Because transportation needs change daily, route assignments may vary from day to day. The Full-Time Substitute Bus Driver must be flexible, dependable, and able to adapt quickly while maintaining a safe and positive environment for all students.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely operate any school bus route assigned by the Director of Transportation.
  • Provide daily coverage for absent bus drivers and assist with additional transportation needs throughout the district.
  • Become familiar with district bus routes, student procedures, and transportation expectations to ensure smooth route coverage.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local laws, DESE regulations, Missouri Department of Transportation requirements, and Board of Education policies.
  • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Maintain appropriate student discipline in accordance with district policies and procedures.
  • Keep assigned buses clean and orderly and coordinate exterior cleaning as needed.
  • Maintain accurate mileage, fuel, ridership, and required transportation records.
  • Fuel buses as needed and complete required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with the Transportation Department using district communication equipment.
  • Attend required safety meetings, in-service training, and professional development.
  • Maintain confidentiality and positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Full-time school-year position. The employee will work all contracted transportation days and may be assigned to morning routes, afternoon routes, midday routes, field trips, athletic trips, or other transportation assignments as needed. Daily route assignments will vary based on district transportation needs.
