Position Title: Middle School Scholar Bowl Coach
Position Summary: The Middle School Scholar Bowl Coach is a stipend-based extracurricular position responsible for organizing, coaching, and supporting a competitive academic team. The coach fosters students’ knowledge across multiple subject areas, promotes teamwork, and prepares students for interscholastic Scholar Bowl competitions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead regular after-school practices during the season
- Teach Scholar Bowl strategies, including buzzer timing, teamwork, and communication
- Develop or curate practice questions and study materials (history, science, literature, mathematics, current events, etc.)
- Register for, coordinate, and supervise team participation in competitions
- Promote academic curiosity, sportsmanship, and positive team culture
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback
- Communicate with school staff, parents, and competition hosts as needed
- Follow school policies and Scholar Bowl rules and guidelines
Qualifications:
- Experience working with middle school students preferred
- Strong general academic knowledge across multiple subject areas
- Effective organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to build student engagement in an extracurricular setting
Time Commitment:
- Seasonal, stipend-based position
- Competitions: Occasional evenings and/or weekends
Compensation:
- Stipend position; amount determined by district extracurricular pay schedule
