Position Summary
The Assistant Football Cheer Coach supports the Head Cheer Coach in leading and developing the high school football cheer program. This position is responsible for assisting with supervision, instruction, and coordination of student-athletes while promoting school spirit, teamwork, sportsmanship, and safety. The Assistant Coach helps ensure the program reflects the values and standards of the school and athletic department.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior cheerleading and/or coaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of cheer techniques, stunting, tumbling, and game-day performance expectations
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Completion of required district and state coaching certifications and background checks
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Support & Instruction
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, conditioning sessions, and game-day performances.
- Provide instruction in cheer techniques, stunting, jumps, tumbling, chants, and sideline routines.
- Help develop and teach choreography for football season performances.
- Support skill development appropriate to athletes’ ability levels while maintaining safety standards.
Student Supervision & Safety
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, pep rallies, travel, and related events.
- Ensure compliance with school, district, and athletic association policies.
- Promote and enforce safety procedures, particularly during stunting and tumbling activities.
- Monitor athlete eligibility and attendance in coordination with the Head Coach.
Game & Event Responsibilities
- Assist with organizing and coordinating game-day responsibilities and sideline management.
- Support pep rallies, assemblies, and other school spirit activities.
- Help supervise locker room conduct and post-event responsibilities.
Team Culture & Conduct
- Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive representation of the school.
- Model professionalism and appropriate conduct at all times.
- Support the enforcement of team rules and discipline consistent with school policy.
- Foster positive relationships among athletes, parents, staff, and the community.
Administrative & Communication Duties
- Assist with communication to parents and athletes regarding schedules and expectations.
- Help coordinate uniforms, equipment, and inventory.
- Participate in coaches’ meetings and professional development as required.
Other Duties
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Cheer Coach, Athletic Director, or Principal.
Terms of Employment
- Seasonal position (Football Season)
- Stipend based on district athletic salary schedule
- Must be available for summer practices, camp (if applicable), games, and postseason events

Performance will be evaluated by the Head Cheer Coach and/or Athletic Director in accordance with district policies. |
