Southern Boone High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Science Teacher to join our high school faculty. The ideal candidate will foster a dynamic and engaging classroom environment that promotes scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning. This position includes teaching Chemistry as a core component of the science curriculum, along with foundational science courses such as biology, physical science, and earth/space science.

The successful candidate will inspire students to explore scientific concepts through inquiry-based instruction, hands-on laboratory experiences, and real-world applications, with a strong emphasis on developing analytical skills and conceptual understanding in Chemistry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver standards-based science lessons aligned with district curriculum and Missouri state guidelines, including comprehensive Chemistry instruction (e.g., atomic structure, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, and laboratory safety).

  • Design and facilitate rigorous, inquiry-driven Chemistry labs and cross-disciplinary science investigations that emphasize data analysis, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving.

  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, including differentiated instruction and technology integration.

  • Incorporate hands-on activities, laboratory experiments, simulations, and digital tools to promote interactive and experiential learning.

  • Assess student progress through assignments, quizzes, tests, laboratory reports, and projects, providing timely and constructive feedback.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and attendance.

  • Foster a classroom culture of curiosity, respect, collaboration, and academic excellence in alignment with the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework.

  • Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to collaborate on curriculum development, instructional strategies, data analysis, and student interventions.

  • Collaborate with fellow teachers, administrators, and parents to support student growth and achievement.

  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-sponsored events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science Education, Chemistry, or a related science field.

  • Valid Missouri teaching certification/license in secondary science (Chemistry certification preferred).

  • Previous high school teaching experience (preferred).

  • Strong knowledge of Chemistry content and laboratory safety procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging, student-centered learning environments.

  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and collaboration.
