Description | Southern Boone Elementary School is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Elementary School Counselor to join our team and support the academic, social, and emotional development of students. The ideal candidate will work closely with students, parents, and staff to create a positive and supportive learning environment. The Elementary School Counselor will help students navigate challenges, develop coping strategies, and foster personal growth, while also coordinating assessments and contributing to school-wide initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Support: Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs. Help students manage stress, anxiety, and other personal concerns.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond to student crises, providing immediate support and working with faculty, parents, and outside resources to ensure the student's well-being.
- Prevention Programs: Implement and lead school-wide prevention programs focusing on bullying prevention, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and positive social behaviors.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents to monitor student progress, provide guidance, and address behavioral or academic challenges.
- Student Advocacy: Advocate for students’ needs, ensuring they have the resources and support necessary to succeed in school.
- Developmental Guidance: Assist in the design and delivery of age-appropriate lessons that promote emotional intelligence, social skills, self-esteem, and positive peer relationships.
- Referral Services: Refer students and families to outside support services when necessary, maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of community resources.
- Record Keeping: Maintain confidential student records and documentation in accordance with school policies, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Assessment Coordination: Coordinate and support the administration of various student assessments, including academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional evaluations. Analyze assessment results to identify student needs, track progress, and make data-driven decisions. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure assessments are aligned with student support goals.
- PBIS Support: Contribute to the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework by promoting positive behavior, reinforcing expectations for students, and helping monitor school-wide PBIS implementation.
- Professional Learning Communities (PLC): Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) with colleagues to engage in ongoing professional development, share strategies, and collaborate to enhance student support efforts across the school.
- Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with best practices in school counseling, mental health, PBIS, PLC, and assessment strategies.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in School Counseling.
- Valid state certification or licensure in school counseling.
- Prior experience in teaching or school counseling is preferred.
- Strong understanding of child development, mental health, and effective counseling techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
- Experience supporting PBIS strategies and frameworks is preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to drive continuous improvement in student support.
- Experience coordinating or administering student assessments is preferred.
